Kirby Health Center

For over 15 years Bakker & Lewis has provided architectural services for the Kirby Health Center.  Overseeing the historic restoration and updating of the original Otis Elevator,  renovations to tenant spaces occupied by the Wyoming Valley Children's Association, Association for the Blind and others.  Their campus of buildings includes the original Health Center constructed in 1931, as well as two adjacent annex buildings.  Most recently we monitored work performed by Masonry Preservation Services for a complete restoration of the building exterior.  Phased over a three year period the work included reconstructing all the granite parapet walls, replacing the original Ludowici blue tile roof, reroofing the flat roof deck areas, and reconstructing the granite plaza, entry steps and sidewalks.  A new handicapped ramp was also constructed to replace the outdated platform lift, making the building more easily accessible to people with disabilities.
